Written by Tim Burton and directed by Henry Selick, The Nightmare Before Christmas was released in 1993 and celebrated its 20 year anniversary last year!

Storyline

Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloweentown, is bored of doing the same old thing for Halloween. One day he stumbles upon Christmas Town and is so caught up with the magic of Christmas, he returns to Halloweentown and pitches the idea of Christmas to the whole community.

The Christmas takeover starts with the kidnapping of Sandy Claws, so Jack can take his place. This is carried out by Halloweentown's best trick or treaters, Lock, Shock and Barrel. These naughty youngsters are friends with the Oogie Boogie Man, the evil rival of Jack Skellington.

Let's just say Oogie Boogie Man has different ideas and the holiday takeover doesn't go according to Jack's plan. Whilst all of this is taking place, Jack is blind to his love interest, Sally, a frankenstein-type character.

Cast

Jack's speaking parts are voiced by Chris Sarandon whilst his singing parts are voiced by the very talented Danny Elfman.

Jacks love interest Sally is voiced by Catherine O'Hara - well known for playing Kevin's mum, Kate McCallister, in the Home Alone and Delia Deetz, Lydia's mum in the movie Beetlejuice.

Review

The Nightmare Before Christmas has been a hit with myself since I was 11. It's also one of my daughters (3 and 11) all time favourite movies too, and is played constantly from October to January. The characters capture your heart and the plot is superb! If you have never watched it, I highly recommend it.
